Foundations

When constructing a building or placing any heavy load onto the ground, it’s essential to install a suitable footing. There are multiple ways of approaching this – in some instances we install one large foundation system that covers the entire area, or we may install individual footings called padstones which can take a concentrated load. The type of foundation will depend upon what’s going above the ground.

The most common types of foundations are;

  • Raft Foundations (mostly used in poor ground conditions)
  • Combined footing (a footing that supports two or more columns or walls)
  • Mass poured foundations (concrete poured straight into the ground typically not re-enforced)
  • Trench Foundations (typically re-enforced concrete poured into a trench, mostly used in poor ground)
  • Piled Foundations (see Piling information)

The type of foundations used varies between projects and is subject to a comprehensive structural design created by an accredited engineer. At DPG we manage the process from Ground Investigation Report all the way through to executing the engineers’ design.

We can provide structural designs, calculations and ground investigation tests or we can work to a specification that has already been designed.
